Just for Youth
Know your Rights
If you’re a teen in California, you should know that you have the right to confidential health services:
- Birth Control, including emergency contraception
- Pregnancy testing and prenatal care
- Testing and treatment for HIV/STDs
- Abortion Services
You do not need to be 18
You do not need your parent’s permission
You do not need your boyfriend or girlfriend’s permission
And you may not need any money
Will they tell my parents?
The clinic or doctor cannot tell anyone why you were there, unless you tell them it’s ok.
What if I’m not able to go to a clinic after school?
You are also legally allowed to leave during school hours to receive these services without parental permission and the school cannot tell anyone. But you do need an appointment at a clinic and proof you received services (such as a clinical staff signature or clinic stamp).
How do I pay?
- Family PACT pays for many sexual health services (like those listed above). It does not pay for abortions, prenatal or maternity care. You can sign up for confidential Family PACT services at a local clinic or doctor’s office. For more information, call 800-952-1054 or www.familypact.org.
- Medi-Cal pays for pregnancy-related care, including abortion services. To sign up for Medi-Cal, contact your local County office.
Check out our Clinic Locator to find a clinic in your area.
Come by and visit our office - for free condoms and questions only. We are NOT a teen clinic.
